The countdown begins...

Welcome to our blog!  As Donnie's deployment to Afghanistan quickly approaches, a blog seems to be the best way to communicate with friends and family all of the "need to knows" and "want to tells" we will undoubtedly experience this coming year.  And who knows, if this thing catches on maybe we'll keep posting.  Whatever the case, at least the next 10 months will be documented at www.uberkoenig.blogspot.com.  Please feel free to pass along our (very awesome) blog address to those who would like to tag along with our lives!

Here are a few of those "need to knows" and "want to tells" we want to share with everyone:

For those of you who haven't heard, Donnie is now a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman for the Marines, based out of Twentynine Palms, CA.  If you're anything like me, you are asking yourself what exactly does a FMF Corpsman do, and isn't Donnie in the Navy?  Picture a combat paramedic for the Marines, and that's what Donnie is, in the most basic sense.  He will be responsible for the field medical care of group of infantry Marines, in addition to fighting along side them.  Because the Marines are part of the Department of the Navy, they use Navy Corpsman for their medical needs.  Whew!  Hope that helps!

We are living in Palm Desert, CA, which is best described as a beautiful desert oasis (thanks Andrea!).  We have rented a 2 bedroom apartment and have an open invitation for guests who would like to experience the desert lifestyle...golf, spas, hiking, etc.  Please email me at heathermaurine@yahoo.com for our mailing address.

Happy New Year everyone, and here's to a wonderful 2010!!!
